Local Area Networks
PC-based local area networks (LANs) emerged throughout the ‘80s and have been proliferating ever since.
The early justifications for LANS were for file and printer sharing.
LANs really took off once Microsoft Windows started selling heavily into the corporate world.
The LAN is the backbone of client/server. There are many LAN technologies and protocols currently available, and many more emerging. A thorough understanding of LANs is a must for anyone involved in implementing a client/server system.
